Ugliest Hockey Skates Ever Made

The Micron hockey skate, although made in Canada, was a shameful display of engineering and style. The boot of the skate was made completely of plastic, as if they attached blades to a couple of painted Javex bottles.
Sadly, these skates did make their way into the National Hockey League and were even worn by Kevin Lowe for a period of time.

Micron was a company of extremes and contradictions. Yes they made the the worst and ugliest skate of all time (plastic microns) but also made the best performance hockey skate of all time: the Micron Mega 10-90. The Mega 10-90(and possibly the Daoust 501) is easily the best hockey skate ever made. Almost all modern performace skates are based on this skate. Even today in 2007 there are players and even hockey equipment stores with want ads looking to buy these skates. Remember these skates were only around from 1990-1993 and even at that time cost $400 US. Not only are these great performace skates, they are practically indestructable. The mega 10-90 PRO version with the red strip are fantastic. When Bauer bought out Micron they came out with these beauties. Unfortunately they quit making them(and dropped micron name) and went to the Bauer AIR 90, which was only a fair replacement for the 10-90. The 1090 footbead and overall comfort level was a 10+. The skates have a rockered type footbead that allows a lean forward stance without having to wedge the heal or waste time on rockering the blades. I have worn many skates including the new big bucks bauers but nothing compares to the Micron Mega 10-90.

I had this ugly pair of skates!!! I was so sad this winter because the plastic broke like a piece of paper, pehraps because they were too old. I have used them since 1996.
